Work in Progress
Failure Modes and Effects Risk Diagnostics (FMERD, Excel workbook) uses MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 (constant) failure rates and MIL-HDBK-338B failure mode probabilities plus failure costs and discount factors to compute system risk (discounted expected cost) from part failures. Alternative FMERD workbook versions include age specific failure rates and diagnostics conditional on age at first system failure. Currently, Weibull failure rate functions are supported in addition to constant failure rates. Workbooks are linked to http://www.fieldreliability.com/FMERD.htm.
Awaiting suggestions for improvements, applications, field failure data to prioritize future work. For more and better reliability-based diagnostics, search for FTDOTS, NASA, by Anne Patterson-Hine, David Iverson, and me.
